Steps to reduce Jet lag

Few are lucky not to be affected by Jet lag but most of us do suffer from it. Avoiding Jet lag is not very hard, infact it is very simple and few of the simple steps to reduce Jet lag are:

1. Pre-flight activites

Make sure everything is in order and in normal conditions. Do not make yourself stressed out. Get plenty of exercise and avoid sickness like flu.

2. Drink lot of water

Keeping yourself hydrated is most important. The humidity in the aircraft hovers around 15%.Compare that with the humidity in the world’s driest place, the Atacama Desert, where it hovers around 16%.

3. Reset your internal clock.

The moment the flight attendants announce the time in your new destination, set your watch. This makes it easier to force yourself to stay awake if you’re arriving in the evening or to catch a nap if you’re arriving in the morning.

4. Take a nap before you leave

Try to sleep well and avoid sleeping too much or too less on the flight.

5. Eat carefully

Pressurized cabins can have odd effects on your gastro intestinal system.

6. Keep moving

Blood clots are a serious health threat on long flights. Force yourself to get up and move around the cabin on a regular basis. Flex your legs and rotate your ankles while you’re seated. Do knee bends and spend layovers walking through the airport.

7. Warm up.

Elevating your temperature can help reset your circadian rhythms (day/night cycles). Exercising, grabbing a sauna or relaxing in a warm bath helps that process.

5 career mistakes you should avoid

Choosing a career based on remuneration
Big mistake. If your main aim is just money, it may just be the start of the road downhill. True, the indisputable purpose of working is to earn and that of a good career is a continuous salary, but when you choose your career choose one based on your skill sets and not how much an industry pays. If you have an attitude that blatantly screams, "Show me the money!", the only tangible object you may soon see is the exit.

Working in too many places for too short a time
Sure, it's great to say you worked for the best companies, but that's only if you hold more than five or 10 years of experience. Organisations do not see any reason to employ drifters. And if you are drifting, my suggestion is to dock that raft and jump on the big boats.

Jumping industries
Photography, advertising, HR, sound. It's nice to see variety on any resume, but if an individual has no speciality, the uniqueness of employment is lost. No longer do people need someone who can do everything or knows more than what is needed.

The need of the hour is specialisation, the offering you make that not many can replicate. We are not machines, and our individuality is our USP. Constantly shifting industries only works is the area of expertise traverses industries.

Punctuality and regularity
Work is not about rebellion, you have to be on time, you have to adhere to the rules. You can bend rules, but breaking them leaves you with career stains that don't easily wash off. All offices demand this dedication, and if you make the mistake, and repeat it, the negative image will stick with you.

Arrogant, more arrogant, most arrogant!
The biggest, yes biggest mistake is arrogance. You may be good, but if you work for someone you have to learn to compromise. To be part of a team that runs with as few kinks as possible, you have to put aside your ego. It doesn't matter what your career, if you can't take orders, you will never work happily.

They say to err is human and forgive divine, but sadly, this doesn't apply to the world of the working man or woman. To err is now a financial liability and forgiveness takes up valuable business time, and our fast paced, hypersonic world chooses not to waste any time on trivialities. So as you go about your pursuit of a meaningful career, make sure you don't commit these career mistakes

Finding work-life balance

Top seven ways to balance work-life

7. One life, one day book.

Keeping separate calendars can easily lead to conflicts between work tasks and home-life commitments. By scheduling everything in the same place, you're less likely to miss out the preparation for assignments and at the same time not miss your mother’s birthday.

6. Cant spare a week, take an hour.

You don't always need an extended vacation to unwind. Instead, set aside an hour each day to enjoy something completely unrelated to work -- a short walk, a workout, or a chapter or two in a book. Quality, not quantity.

5. Audit your weekly schedule.

Keep a log of everything you do during the week, from assignments to commuting to watching TV. With a sense of how the scales tip to one side or the other, you'll be better able to re-balance them.

4.Plan and protect downtime

Don't take leisure time for granted. A day in front of the TV is no substitute for a nice time with family, a trip to the near by mall, or a hanging out with friends. Also, get routine household chores done on workdays, which will free up your days off for bigger and better things.

3.Know your options

More than ever, new technology is offering employers and employees alike greater flexibility with work schedules. This includes everything from a compressed workweek, to flex hours, job-sharing, and telecommuting.

2. Get your priorities straight.

Take the time to decide what's important for you. Then, try devoting your full attention to one thing at a time -- concentrate on work at work, and family at home.

1. Stop being the boss

Entrepreneurs tend to be control freaks, that can be good for business, but bad for downtime. Whether it's paying the bills or organizing a trip, why not let family and friends run the business of your life every now and then.

Google ON THE TOP

Come this September it has been nine years since the advent of Google and it’s been rated as the best place to work for.

"You can make money without doing evil," "You can be serious without a suit," and, "Work should be challenging and the challenge should be fun,"

These quotes, let us know about it’s cool and composed corporate culture. Google is able to attract the best talent since they provide a employee friendly environment.

Few of the mantras behind their success are:

• Employees are free to work anywhere in the office.
• Employees are provided with free meals and transportation in and around the office.
• Employees are provided with medical assistance, massage centers and gym inside the office.

Moreover, recreational amenities are scattered throughout the campus and include locker rooms, washers and dryers, assorted video games, Foosball, a baby grand piano, a pool table, and ping pong. In addition to the rec room, there are snack rooms stocked with various cereals, gummy bears, toffee, licorice, cashews, yogurt, carrots, fresh fruit, and dozens of different drinks including fresh juice, soda, and make your own cappuccino.

All Google engineers are encouraged to spend 20% of their work time (one day per week) on projects that interest them. Some of Google's newer services, such as Gmail, Google News, Orkut, and AdSense originated from these independent endeavors.

Now who does not want to work in Google?

Youngsters looking to make it in the advertising industry should focus on two words -- 'simplicity' and 'commitment', says Hital.

In terms of an educational background in advertising, he says, "If you're looking to get into the arts aspect of advertising, you need to have some sense of art and design. You can opt for a course in applied, commercial or fine arts. Copywriters, on the other hand, need to have good language skills and an ability to come up with original ideas that will sit well with the common man -- you know, they have to have a local flavour, so to speak."

The experts mantra to successed in advertising is to "Prove yourself through your work and effort. A successful career is 99 percent hard work and maybe one percent luck. Think of it this way -- the harder you work, the luckier you'll get careerwise!"

New face of GRE

Forget your GRE jitters and blues because the new Gre is supposed to be user friendly.

Experts say "A new linear GRE replaces old adaptive GRE”. From vocabulary-savvy to reasoning-savvy quant. This time the focus is on real life problems, data interpretation and quantitative reasoning. AWA has been changed into CTAW. The test is lengthier now. New question types have been introduced.

The new GRE tests your skills more on reasoning than vocabulary (so no more mugging this time). Quant will be more oriented towards data interpretation and word problems.

The quant portion will be bit difficult and verbal will be simpler. The duration of the test is over four hours and is valid for five years.

The new pattern is implemented from September 2007 and the registration starts from July and moreover it's a worldwide change.
